Update on DIGI.COM/YOUTH

3rd DIGI.COM/YOUTH Project meeting

The University of Lodz from Poland hosted the 3rd project meeting. The partners discussed the development of the moodle platform for assessment of digital competencies for young people, guidebook for youth workers and results of the piloting sessions with youth workers and young learners. Polish youth workers were also invited to share their experiences of working with young people.

DIGI.COM/YOUTH Platform

The first version of the Moodle platform containing the tasks that deal the assessment of digital competencies and development of professional competencies needed on the labour market is ready for the piloting with youngsters and youth workers.

The Moodle platform foresees the development of 5 islands that cover the five main areas of digital competencies as described in the DIGCOMP framework: information, communication, content creation, safety and problem solving.

The  starting level of the Moodle is based on the basic / foundation level of proficiency. This level was agreed as a result of the first analysis following research into the competence level among youngsters.

The assessment of competencies is based on the scenario/story telling  of “car racing”. The player / user will participate in the selection to be a member of a car race team and compete to obtain the approval of the team director. The aspirant must complete the Training Session, which has 5 Training Circuits linked to the 5 areas of competencies:

  • Info Raceway (Circuit 1): Information
  • Communication Speedway (Circuit 2): Communication
  • Creativity Grand Prix (Circuit 3): Content Creation
  • Safety Park (Circuit 4): Safety
  • No Problem International Circuit (Circuit 5): Problem solving

The first version of the moodle platform currently includes the draft area of Information related to assessing and developing the skills of identifying  locating, retrieving, storing, organising and analyzing digital information, as well as judging its relevance and purpose.

2nd DIGI.COM/YOUTH Project meeting

In November 2015 the partners from Germany, Poland, Spain and UK met in Bilbao at the premises of Tecnalia.

This meeting marked the second of the DIGICOM/YOUTH project. During the meeting the partners discussed the researching phase on ICT teaching/learning methodologies in non-formal educational institutions with special focus on their correlation to the DIGCOMP Framework. In this phase of the project over 300 young persons and 85 youth workers shared their input as to how “digital” their daily routines are. Based on the feedback and some research the partners planned the development of an assessment platform based of the DIGCOMP Framework. The VHS Team and partners left the fruitful meeting with plenty of things to do. Early next year each country will organise an event for stakeholders and organsiations working with at-risk youth.
